FAQ

If you don’t see your question on this page, don’t hesitate to contact me. Also, please see my policies for info on refunds, shipping and payment.

Is it difficult to install one of your mobiles?

Not at all. All mobiles (unless it’s a large custom mobile) ship completely assembled. So all you have to do is:

  1. Open the box
  2. Screw the hook that comes with the mobile into the ceiling
  3. Remove the protective materials from the mobile
  4. Tie the transparent nylon string that’s attached to the mobile to the hook

That’s all.

Can your hanging mobiles be adjusted to fit my ceiling height?

The mobiles ship with a generous amount of line attached to it. You can tie that line to the ceiling hook at whatever length you think works best for you.

Do I need to balance the mobile when hanging it for the first time?

No, all mobiles ship fully balanced and ready to hang.

Are any of your mobiles suitable for outdoors?

Besides the ones listed in the outdoor section in my shop, I can adjust many of the other mobiles so they can withstand extreme weather (I know about one of my mobiles having survived hurricane Irene just fine!). Please contact me if you’re considering a mobile for outdoors that’s not listed in the outdoors section.

How much do your hanging mobiles weigh?

The ready-to-ship ones in the shop weigh around 1 to 2 pounds (0.5 – 1 kg). A large custom mobile, let’s say 10 feet (3 meters) in size weighs around 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 to 7 kilograms), depending on details. Anything larger than 10 feet (4.5 meter) really depends on the design and the materials used, however the really large hanging mobiles or kinetic art installations can be made rather light by using hollow tubing and hollow panels instead of steel rods and sheet metal.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I do. The free shipping offer includes shipping worldwide.

Can you make a copy / replica / reproduction of an Alexander Calder mobile for me?

I could but that would be illegal. All of his works are copyrighted. Besides I’m proud of having developed my own original style of mobiles. If you are looking for an original Calder mobile for sale, I suggest you keep an eye out for them at auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, but be prepared to pay between US$ 200’000 and US$ 6.3 Million for one.
