Mid-Century Modern Mobiles

These mobiles are similar to Alexander Calder‘s work, mid-century modern in style, handmade with abstract sheet metal shapes and wire arms. They are suspended sculptures that are based on the same balance structures as Calder’s work, allowing them to move with the air currents. Some of these kinetic sculptures utilize swivels which allow the parts to rotate full circle independently from each other. Conventional mobiles were mostly made with hook-into-loop connections which restricts their ability to move to some extend. Although inspired by Calder’s work and mid-century modern art, I’d like to think these mobiles have an original element to them with a hint of contemporary design. Some of the ideas are quite original I think, at least I haven’t seen any similar ones yet.
